I have podcasted a few times in my life. I do not do it as much as other people my age, but I still know how to do it. A person can record something and then post it to a link for others to listen to or view. I have downloaded movies and listened to lessons from class. I learned exactly what it is from http://www.apple.com/itunes/whatson/podcasts/ . There are millions of preloaded material on the apple websight.
I think it can help students that were absent for a day or more, or who have a hard time learning. I could put a podcast on a website for my students and then when they are not at school they can get what they need and get it first hand. I have not seen podcasting used much in the elementary schools, but I do believe that it is going to be a big part of school in the future once teachers start using it more often.
It can also be a great way for teachers to communicate with the parents of their students. If a parent is away and cannot attend a meeting, the meeting can be recorded and posted online for the parents to see. This is way more convenient for everyone.

I agree with you that podcasting will soon be used more in elementary classrooms. I feel as we become educators and already know about certain forms of technology in the classroom we will see them appear more. It truly is a good way of communicating. I also like how you have the link on your blog. I had a link but couldn't get it to work. Do you have any suggestions that may help me next time when trying to add a link?
ReplyDeleteGreat job. I didn't know you went to avon, and was in the color guard, i was in the Snareline at avon for 4 years
ReplyDeleteI think you did a good job and I agree with you that podcasts will be used in classrooms in the future. I am actually a little surprised that it is not used more by professors in college.
ReplyDeleteErica, you seem to be very familiar with podcasting. I can see how it could be very beneficial in a school environment, especially as more and more classes are offered online. My wife is currently in grad school and says that one of her instructors tapes his lectures and offers on their sharepoint site so that students that aren't able to attend class are always informed. That is also a great resource to refer back for notes. Elementary schools will probably be the last to adapt, but I think as podcast become more and more popular - it will be a normal process in teacher's curriculums.
